Song/Rhyme Time: Six Little Turtle Rhyme

Fun Rhyme Teaching Numbers 1 through 6

Six little turtles went swimming one day
through the sea and far away

When mommy turtle called "Come back, come back"
Only one little turtle came swimming back

When mommy turtle called again "Come back, come back"
one more little turtle came swimming back

Now count the turtles one, two

When mommy turtle called again "Come back, come back"
one more turtle came swimming back

Now count the turtles one, two, three

Repeat with four turtle, five turtles and six turtles.

Art/Craft: Whale Puppet Craft

Cute Craft For Ocean Week You will need to print out the whale picture on copy paper, you will need one for each child. The children will color the whale and teacher will cut them out and help the children tape them to a craft stick.

Activity: In our July lesson plans there is one craft for each day (five days per week).

Art/Craft: pom–pom Color Match Up

Fun Color Activity. Children will have fun learning their colors with this fun hands on color activity.

You will need to print out the fish and color them several colors such as (blue, red, green, yellow and brown). You will need the same colored pom–poms as the fish you just colored. Place the pompoms into a small cloth bag or pillowcase. Have the children sit in a circle and take turns "picking a pom–pom"from the bag. Have the children hold up the pom–pom that they picked from the bag and tell you what color the pom–pom is and then have them match it to the fish by color, have them place the pom–pom onto the fish that is the same color.

Letter/Number Time: Fish Number Match Up Game

This is a fun hands on math activity. Children will have fun learning their numbers by matching up the fish.

You will need: Teacher will need six paper plates and the fish with numbers on it print out.

Activity: Have the children take turns matching up the cards to the matching numbers on the paper plates.

Have all the children sit in a circle. Put all the cards into a cloth bag or pillowcase. Have the children take turns pulling out one fish card. Have the child tell you what number is on the fish and then have them match the fish by number to the matching number on the paper plate.

Special Activity: Making Yellow Rectangles

Fun sensory and learning activity!

Directions: You will need some yellow play dough for the children, mini rolling pins, rectangle cookie cutters for the children or you can use mega blocks.

Activity: Show the children how to roll out the play dough. You will need the mega blocks that are double (see picture) and have them push the mega blocks into the play dough and take the mega blocks back out of the play dough, it will make a rectangle hole and it will make two squares of play dough, show them how they can place the two squares of yellow play dough side by side to make a rectangle. (see picture above)

To make it more fun have them pretend they are making sugar cookies and have them place the play dough squares onto a cookie sheet and let them remove the pretend cookies with a sturdy plastic spatula and drop them into a sturdy plastic cookie jar and take them back out, and then see if they can put the two squares together to make one long rectangle cookie! Have them squish up the play dough and repeat, lots of fun!

This activity reinforces the words yellow, numbers 1 and 2 and the words square and rectangle with this activity.
