This is a one day sample from my January Toddler lessons.
Daily Teaching Guide
Day 2
Circle Time:
Print out my frog picture onto card stock paper and cover with clear contact paper. Cut out the frogs for each child. You will need two sturdy paper plates for each child. Cut a door in the top plate. Make it large enough for the toddlers to reach into it and pull the frog out. You will need a piece of blue felt (pond) cut it out into a circle to fit the bottom paper plate. Give the children large paint brushes and red, blue and yellow paint to make brown. As they paint the paper plate and mix the colors together they will end up with brown. Have the children cover the other paper plate with glue and stick the felt onto it. Put these aside to dry. After both pieces are dry staple the outside edge and cover the staples with dark colored duck tape so the children will not see the staples and prevent them from pulling them out. Show the children hot to put the frog to bed (hibernate) beneath the mud and then wake him up and take him out to play with. Make sure frog is covered on both sides with clear contact paper to make him sturdy.
Learning Time:
Teacher will need to print out two sets of the feed the frog puzzle cards per child. One card will be the game board, do not cut this one. The other set will be the puzzle cards; teacher will cut these out, just cut along each shape, cut out the circle, triangle, square and rectangle.
Have the children match each picture to the matching pictures on the game board, have them match the pictures by shapes, older toddlers can count the flies in each shape.
**Optional** you may want to attach Velcro dots onto the backs of each picture and onto the front of each picture on the game board. Make sure the Velcro is in the same spot on each piece so they will stick together.
Special Activity:
Today you will make the toddlers a hibernating animal Book. This will be a fun way for the toddlers to learn some of the animal’s names. Be sure to show the children the pictures each morning for a few days so they will learn the animal’s names. Children learn by repetition. Leave the book out during the day for the children to be able to look at it and learn the animal’s names.
To make the book you will need to print out my hibernating animal pictures and cut them apart. You will need 1 and half pieces of card stock paper. Take two pieces of card stock paper and fold each one into 4 even pieces. Now cut the pieces on the fold lines. You will need 6 of these cut pages to make your book. Now glue the animal pictures onto the card stock paper and cover with clear contact paper. Make sure you cover both sides. This makes the picture book very durable. Now hole punch the pages on the right hand side. You may want to hole punch the top, middle and bottom. I use yarn or string to tie the pages together. I tie it tightly, with a knot, so the toddlers will not get the string off but I also leave it loose enough so that the toddlers can turn the pages.
