Circle Time:
1, 2, 3 Caterpillar
First, teacher will need to cut out some large circles (use a small plate as a pattern to cut out the circles. Cut your circles out of different colors of heavy paper; such as card stock paper.
Draw a face on the front circle. You will need to cut out thirteen circles. The first one will be the face and then number the rest of the circles 1, 2, 3 through 12. Use a marker and write the numbers very large on each circle. Have the children put the caterpillar back together, have them take turns putting the circles into the correct numerical order. Help them as needed.
Song/Rhyme:
Two Little caterpillars
Adapted From - Two Little Blackbirds
Two little caterpillars climbing up the tree.
(Show caterpillars and slowly wiggle them upward, like they are climbing)
One named Blair and one named Bree.
(Show one caterpillar, then the other one)
Crawl away Blair, crawl away Bree.
(Hide one caterpillar behind your back, and then hide the other caterpillar behind your back.)
Crawl back Blair, crawl back Bree.
(Bring back one caterpillar and then the other one, so now both are showing)
Directions:
Teacher will need to print out two small caterpillars onto heavy paper such as white cardstock paper and have the chidren color the caterpillars and then have them use the two small caterpillars with the rhyme above.
Art Time:
Paper Plate Caterpillar
Teacher will need a few paper plates for each child. Have the children paint the paper plates any color they would like. Put them aside to dry.
After they dry, teacher will staple the plates together. Have the children decorate the front circle to be the face. Have the children glue on two circles for the eyes and then give each child a marker and have them make a mouth for their caterpillar.
*Optional* you can have the children glue on some rectangles to the bottom of the caterpillar for legs.
Learning Time:
Caterpillar Writing And Coloring Page
Print out one page for each child. Print the caterpillar writing page onto copy paper.
Next, hold up the picture, ask the children if they can tell you what the picture is; a caterpillar. Ask the children if they know what letter is shown at the bottom of the picture; the letter C.
Then have the children color the picture and trace the C’s at the bottom of the page.
Special Activity:
Time to Feed My Caterpillar - Coloring Book
Read the children the story the very hungry caterpillar by Eric Carle. If you do not have this book you should be able to borrow it from your local library.
Teacher will print out the caterpillar coloring book onto copy paper. Print out one set for each child. Later in the week, when the children have colored all the pages, teacher will staple the pages together to make the children their own little book called “Time to Feed My Caterpillar book”.
Throughout the week have the children color the pages. This activity does not need to be completed in one day. When they have colored all their pages, teacher will need to staple the pages together to make a book for each child. Staple down one side with a stapler, you may find it works best to put a staple in each end and one in the middle.
Another way of attaching the pages together to make a book for the children would be to hole punch and attach with lace, string or yarn.
Their book will show the first five foods the caterpillar ate in the story “The Hungry Caterpillar”.
After the children have colored all the pages and you have stapled the pages together to make each of the children a book, have the children sit together in a circle and have them all turn to page one and ask them "what is on the cover of their book?" It is a ____? (caterpillar)
Then say something like, "what's on the next page? Is it a fruit or a vegetable? Its a fruit, does anyone know the name of this fruit, yes its an apple, lets count the apples, there is one apple, let's look at the next page, is that a fruit or a vegetable, yes its a fruit, does anyone know the name of the fruit, yes, its a pear, how many pears are on the page, get out your counting fingers and lets point to the pears, one pear, two pears, great!! Lets see whats on the next page", etc.
This is a good time to reinforce the word “fruit” to the children.

Bear Work Sheet
To help reinforce the letters your children will be learning, you can print out and use different work sheets each month. On this work sheet the preschoolers will cut off the bottom row and then glue the letters onto the correct openings on the work sheet.

Above you can view one of the learning activities from our March curriculum, during Forest Animals week. The children will match the letters to the paper plates. They have so much fun playing this game they don't even realize they are learning their letters!
Writing Page
Above you can view the rain writing page. The children will trace the letter "R" and then color the picture. Tracing the letter R will help them to learn the letter and practice their writing skills.
Feather Match Up
As shown above you can view one of our fun daily activities. This activity works on teaching the children their colors by having them match up the feathers to the colors painted on the egg carton. The children just love sticking the feathers into the egg cups.
Hibernating Animals
This is a learning game where the children will learn the names of some of the animals that hibernate during the winter time. They will learn these concepts by playing games, singing songs, and participating in other fun learning activities.

There are also holiday signs to print out in certain months of curriculum, there is one for Thanksgiving - shown above, plus one for Christmas and the fourth of July, that you can print out and post on your door to remind parents that you will be closed for the holiday.
